How to Import Etsy Products to Shopify (2026)
Three honest ways to move Etsy listings into Shopify - Etsy's CSV export, Shopify's product importer, and Product Upload - with a field-by-field comparison, pricing math, and the things that don't migrate cleanly.

Quick answer
Is moving Etsy products to Shopify allowed?
Yes, if they're your own listings. Etsy's Seller Policy lets you sell the same items on other marketplaces and your own site - many long-time Etsy sellers run a Shopify store in parallel or migrate entirely once they've outgrown Etsy's fees and the constant offsite-ads push.
What's not allowed is scraping other people's Etsy listings and reselling them. Etsy listings (photos, descriptions, product names) are copyrighted by the seller, and handmade/vintage shops fiercely protect their brands. If you're thinking of sourcing from someone else's Etsy shop, stop - you'll get DMCA'd and banned from both platforms. If you want to dropship, use a supplier platform like AliExpress or Alibaba instead.
One more thing: Etsy reserves the right to deactivate your Etsy shop if they decide you're promoting a competing storefront inside product descriptions or messaging. Keep cross-promotion off-platform (your packaging, emails, social bio).
Three methods compared
There are really only three ways to get an Etsy catalog onto Shopify. None of them are perfect. Pick based on how many listings you have and how important variant fidelity is to you.
| Method | Time / 20 products | Cost | Keeps variants? | Keeps images? | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Etsy CSV → Shopify import | 30–60 min (lots of cleanup) | Free | No (single variant only) | Partial (need to re-add hosted URLs) | Small catalogs, one-off migration |
| Shopify's built-in importer | N/A - there is no direct Etsy connector | Free | - | - | Don't bother; it's CSV under the hood |
| Product Upload (URL-based) | 5–10 min | Free tier, paid for bulk | Yes (up to Etsy's 2 option types) | Yes (gallery re-hosted on Shopify) | Mid-to-large catalogs, ongoing sync, handmade shops with lots of variations |
For a catalog under 10 products, just copy-paste the descriptions yourself in the Shopify admin - you'll want to rewrite them for Shopify's SEO anyway. For anything bigger, one of the automated methods is worth it.
Method 1 - Etsy CSV → Shopify import
This is the official, free path. It works but the CSV Etsy exports is not the CSV Shopify imports, so you're doing column mapping by hand in a spreadsheet.
Step 1 - Export your Etsy listings
- Open Etsy and go to Shop Manager.
- Click Settings → Options.
- Open the Download Data tab.
- Click Download CSV under "Currently for sale listings." Etsy emails you the file within a few minutes for larger shops.
The exported file contains: TITLE, DESCRIPTION, PRICE, CURRENCY_CODE, QUANTITY, TAGS, MATERIALS,IMAGE1…IMAGE10, and VARIATIONS. Notice what's missing: a SKU field, any structured variant pricing, and your shipping profiles.
Step 2 - Reshape it into Shopify's CSV format
Shopify's product CSV has 48 columns starting with Handle, Title, Body (HTML), Vendor, and branching into Option1 Name, Option1 Value, Option2 Name, Option2 Value, Variant SKU, Variant Price, Image Src. You need to map Etsy's columns into Shopify's structure:
TITLE→TitleDESCRIPTION→Body (HTML)(wrap in<p>tags)PRICE→Variant PriceQUANTITY→Variant Inventory QtyTAGS→Tags(comma-separated; already in that format)- Slugified
TITLE→Handle IMAGE1…IMAGE10→ one row each withImage Srcand incrementingImage Position
The variations column is the rough part. Etsy stores variations as a semicolon-delimited string like Size:Small,Medium,Large;Color:Red,Blue. Shopify wants one row per variant with explicit option names and values, plus a Variant Price per row. You have to fan that out manually or with a script. For a 200-product shop, that's easily an afternoon of Excel work.
Step 3 - Upload to Shopify
- In Shopify admin, go to Products → Import.
- Choose your reshaped CSV.
- Check Overwrite products with matching handles only if you're re-running an import.
- Click Upload and continue.
Shopify will validate the file, show you a preview, and then queue the import. Errors usually come from (1) prices with currency symbols, (2) images hosted on Etsy's CDN that Shopify can't fetch because they're behind anti-hotlink headers, or (3) handles colliding with existing products.
Method 2 - Shopify's native importer
Shopify does not ship a direct Etsy connector. Every "Etsy to Shopify importer" you see in the Shopify App Store is a third-party app that either does CSV reshaping for you or uses the URL-based approach described below. If you Google "shopify etsy integration" you'll land on help.shopify.com pages that describe using an app - not a built-in feature.
Worth knowing: Shopify has a Marketplace Connect app that lets you list your Shopify products on Etsy, Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. It syncs the other direction (Shopify → Etsy), not the one you want here. Don't confuse the two.
Method 3 - Product Upload (URL-based)
Full disclosure: this is our tool. Here's the plain description of how it differs from the CSV route so you can decide.
Instead of exporting a CSV, you paste the public URL of each Etsy listing (or select listings from your shop URL) and Product Upload pulls the title, description, variant grid, image gallery, and tags directly from the listing page. It then writes them to Shopify through the Admin API - no CSV, no column mapping.
Why this is faster for bigger shops
- Variants stay intact. The tool reads the variation JSON that powers Etsy's dropdowns and writes two-option variants into Shopify directly.
- Images are re-hosted on Shopify CDN. You're not depending on Etsy serving your pictures later.
- Descriptions are HTML-clean. Etsy descriptions are plain text with line breaks - the tool converts them to paragraph-broken HTML for Shopify.
- Bulk from a shop URL. Paste
https://www.etsy.com/shop/YourShopNameand it will enumerate listings.
Steps
- Install the Product Upload Shopify app.
- Connect your Shopify store (one click, OAuth).
- Paste the Etsy shop URL or a list of individual listing URLs.
- Review the extracted data. Every field is editable before publish. You can apply bulk AI rewrites to descriptions and titles here.
- Click Publish to Shopify. Products appear in your admin with variants, inventory, and images filled in.
What transfers cleanly - and what doesn't
Regardless of method, the data model mismatch between Etsy and Shopify means a few things never survive the trip. Know these before you import so you're not surprised.
Transfers cleanly
- Title, description, price, quantity
- Main product images (if the source isn't behind anti-hotlink)
- Tags (Shopify keeps them as-is)
- Categories (mapped to Shopify's product type)
Transfers with effort
- Variants. Etsy allows up to 2 option types with an unlimited combination matrix. Shopify supports 3 option types but only 100 variants per product. Most shops are fine; a shop selling custom jewelry with 3+ option types (metal, size, engraving text) loses one.
- Variant images. Etsy lets you assign images to specific variations. Shopify does too, but the link isn't in the CSV - it has to be set after import (API or manual).
- Inventory tracking. Etsy tracks per-variant quantity; make sure your tool writes inventory to the variant row, not just the parent product.
Does NOT transfer
- Personalization fields. Shopify has no first-class concept of buyer-entered personalization. You'll need a line item property app like Infinite Options or build a product option field yourself. Set this up before you import personalized listings or customers won't know to leave a note.
- Shipping profiles. Etsy shipping profiles don't exist in Shopify. Recreate them as Shipping zones under Settings → Shipping.
- Reviews. Etsy reviews are owned by Etsy and can't be exported. You have to ask customers to re-review on Shopify, or use a third-party review app that imports from a CSV of past orders. See our note below on the reviews problem.
- Favorites and shop stats. Expected - no platform exports those.
Pricing: Etsy fees vs. Shopify costs
The number-one reason sellers migrate off Etsy is fees. Here's the honest math on a $40 handmade candle sale, assuming you opted into Etsy's Offsite Ads program (most shops past $10K/yr are auto-enrolled).
| Fee | Etsy | Shopify (Basic $29/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing (renews every 4 months or on sale) | $0 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% = $2.60 | 0% (on own domain) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 = $1.45 (US) | 2.9% + $0.30 = $1.46 (Shopify Payments) |
| Offsite Ads | 12–15% = $4.80–$6.00 (if order came from an ad) | $0 (but you run your own ads) |
| Monthly platform cost | $0 | $29 |
| Take-home per $40 sale | $31.95 (no ad) / $25.95 (offsite ad) | $38.24 |
The catch: Shopify doesn't bring traffic. Etsy's offsite ads are expensive, but they're pulling buyers from Google Shopping and Meta that you'd otherwise pay for yourself. Budget 20–30% of revenue for paid acquisition in your first 6 months on Shopify, or plan to drive traffic from an existing Instagram / TikTok / email list.
Break-even on the $29/mo Shopify plan is roughly 5 orders per month that would otherwise have hit offsite ads. For most shops doing $1K+/month on Etsy, the migration saves money before you count branding and customer-ownership benefits.
Shipping, returns, and reviews
The operational side is where most migrations trip. Plan for these before your first Shopify order.
Shipping
Etsy's shipping profiles bundle carrier rates, processing time, and destination pricing. Shopify splits this into Shipping zones (destinations + rates), Shipping profiles (per-product carve-outs, e.g. for oversized items), and your payment processor's shipping label purchase. If you used Etsy's postage label discounts, Shopify Shipping offers similar USPS/UPS discounts on the Basic plan and up.
Returns
Etsy forces a no-returns-default on handmade shops unless you manually enable a returns policy. Shopify has zero opinion here - you have to write your own return policy and publish it as a page under Online Store → Pages. Link it from the footer and from product pages. Google's free product listings require a return policy to be eligible, so this also affects SEO.
The reviews problem
Etsy reviews stay on Etsy. This is the single biggest psychological barrier for long-time Etsy sellers migrating over. Two workarounds:
- Keep the Etsy shop live for 6–12 months and send new customers a discount code to re-order on Shopify, where you collect the review yourself. Don't explicitly say "leave us a review on Shopify" in Etsy messages - it's against Etsy policy.
- Use a review app like Judge.me or Loox to request reviews on future orders. You won't have the old ones but you'll build up a fresh wall within 90 days.

Next steps
- Once your Etsy products are in Shopify, ongoing additions are faster with Product Upload for Shopify - paste any supplier URL and publish straight to your store.
- Before publishing, read our guide on the Shopify product CSV template so you understand every column you'll be filling in.
- If you also have a WooCommerce store in the mix, see our WooCommerce to Shopify guide.
