Options + variants vs modifiers

BigCommerce splits buyer choices into two systems: options (size, colour - which create variant SKUs) and modifiers (free-form input that doesn't create variants, like engraving text). Product Upload routes supplier variants into options and any free-form fields into modifiers.

Option sets

BigCommerce lets you reuse option groups across products via option sets. Product Upload detects when an imported listing matches an existing option set and reuses it instead of creating duplicates.

Categories as a tree

BigCommerce categories are hierarchical. Product Upload assigns each imported product to the deepest matching category in your existing tree, falling back to creating a new category if no match exists.

Stencil-friendly meta

BigCommerce's Stencil themes pull SEO data from page title and meta description fields per product. Product Upload pre-populates both - no separate SEO pass needed.

Can I use Product Upload to migrate to BigCommerce?
For the product-catalogue side, yes - and it's often the fastest part of a BigCommerce migration. Feed URLs from your existing Shopify, Wix, WooCommerce, or Magento store into Product Upload and each listing comes out the other side as a clean BC product with the correct option/variant/modifier split. Does Product Upload publish directly to BigCommerce?

Will my variants and options import correctly?
Yes. Product Upload maps supplier variants to BigCommerce options (which create variant SKUs) and any free-form fields to modifiers. Each variant gets its own SKU, price, and inventory count.
Does it work with B2B customer groups?
Imported products inherit the default pricing setup. If you're using BigCommerce B2B Edition with customer-group price lists, you'll set those up separately - Product Upload doesn't touch your existing pricing rules.
Will the imported descriptions be original?
